Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol that is used to encrypt the info exchanged between a hosting server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to secure the information that clients submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so on. Any content they type in in any box on the Internet site will be submitted safely and securely to the server, so their login or payment information will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Typically, an SSL certificate requires a dedicated IP address to be set up, meaning that the overall cost for your online presence will be bigger. While this might not exactly be an issue for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small web store which does not generate big revenue if additional money should be spent. That is the reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to set up an SSL certificate.
Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting
Given that we offer SSL certificates with our shared hosting plans, you can effortlessly secure your Internet site and use a shared IP address with just several clicks. The option shall be available during the order process, therefore if you have a dedicated IP address, you can use it, but if you don't have one and you do not want to pay for this kind of a service, you could use the shared IP, which has been set up especially for SSLs. The certificate shall work in the same exact way as if it had a dedicated IP address and the only difference shall be that if someone tries to open the IP address as a URL, they will not see your site. As our system features an auto-configuration option, the SSL will be set up automatically the instant it's issued, so you'll not need to do anything on your end after you approve it. That way, you could have a secure and reliable website without spending extra money for that.
Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The shared IP option is available with all semi-dedicated hosting and the setup takes only 2 mouse clicks in the hosting Control Panel regardless if you get an SSL via our enterprise or through a third-party vendor. There shall not be any difference with regards to how the certificate functions or encrypts the information that your site visitors submit, so your site shall be secure without spending the additional money for a dedicated IP. The only thing that will be different is that https://the-shared-IP won't open your Internet site, unlike https://the-dedicated-IP, but it is unlikely that anyone will ever try to access your website in this way as opposed to entering your domain. Additionally we offer an auto-configuration option for the SSLs purchased via our company and if you select it and you choose to use a shared IP address as opposed to a dedicated one, our system shall set everything up the minute the SSL is approved and issued with no need for any action on your end.
